2024 Annual Meeting
Storytelling, Art Direction, Project Management, Experience Building
Overview
Thompson Thrift’s 2024 Annual Meeting centered around the theme of "Communicates Effectively," one of the company’s core competencies. The event focused on strengthening communication across departments and sister companies while helping team members better understand the scale of Thompson Thrift’s operations and how each team contributes to the development lifecycle. Rather than presenting information through traditional presentations alone, the experience encouraged employees to explore, discover, and engage with the company’s work firsthand.
A centerpiece of the event was a series of 34 large-format informational banners showcasing every active residential and commercial development across the organization. Together, the displays highlighted 72 individual developments, illustrating each stage of the development process from acquisition and construction to leasing and property management. Instead of relying solely on statistics, each development featured carefully curated facts and project highlights that gave employees a deeper understanding of the people, places, and stories behind the company's growing portfolio.
Developing the exhibit required extensive collaboration across Communications, Development, Construction, and Community Management teams to ensure every project was accurately represented. Information was gathered, verified, and distilled into clear, engaging content that balanced consistency across the entire installation while allowing each development to maintain its own identity. The result was an educational experience that made a large amount of information approachable, visually engaging, and easy to navigate.
To reinforce the meeting's emphasis on communication and discovery, the exhibit was paired with an interactive passport activity. Each attendee received a custom-designed passport containing fill-in-the-blank questions that could only be answered by exploring the banner displays. Completed passports were entered into a prize drawing, encouraging team members to engage with colleagues, visit every section of the exhibit, and learn more about projects outside their own departments.
Responsibilities included creative direction, environmental graphic design, information hierarchy, content layout, print production, vendor coordination, and cross-functional collaboration throughout the project. The banner system was designed to communicate a significant amount of information in a clear, visually cohesive format while maintaining consistency across dozens of unique displays.
The final installation transformed operational data into an interactive learning experience that reinforced the meeting’s core message: effective communication begins with a shared understanding of the work. By combining environmental design, information graphics, and audience participation, the project helped team members gain a broader perspective of the organization while creating meaningful opportunities for connection across departments.
